Steering Group

The steering group is comprised of representatives from organisations that contribute to the Essex Biodiversity Project financially or in terms of other resources or expertise. The group meets every two months to discuss the activities that have taken place and determine the future direction and focus of the Essex Biodiversity Project.

There are various sub-groups which have been developed in order to speed up the process of delivery. These include the BAP review group, Strategy group, the Invasive Species group and the Project group.

Our partners are an essential component of the Essex Biodiversity Project; effective implementation of the Essex Biodiversity Action Plan and the successful protection of our biodiversity could not be achieved without their input and resources. If you are interested in becoming a partner of the Essex Biodiversity Project and guiding the work of the Project, please contact Steve Plumb (Chair) or Mark Iley (Coordinator) to discuss the options.

Strategic plan

Strategic focus

EBP undertakes wildlife conservation work in the face of many environmental pressures, including increasingly large developments, climate change, pollution and the impact of non-native invasive species on our local wildlife and habitats. For the future security of our wildlife, it is important that we record and understand our biodiversity resource and protect core wildlife areas. In order to do this, it is vital that we inspire the people of Essex to value biodiversity for its intrinsic value, the well being it can provide for us all and the economic benefits it brings.

In 2007, the EBP Steering Group recognised the need for a strategic plan to identify the intended direction of the Project’s work over the medium and longer term. This plan has been updated in 2009 to help EBP to achieve appreciable and significant gains for biodiversity in Essex.

This strategic plan has the following main themes:

A Biodiversity Action Plan review and monitoring, identifying realistic targets at a local level

B Projects – small and landscape-scale

C Providing value for partners – strong partnership with sound financial base; raising awareness of the importance of biodiversity and community engagement

D Development and Planning – influencing local and regional government policy
